Squamish Days Needs You!

Posted on Sep 06 2018

For 61 years the volunteer team at the Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival has been putting together a community festival that celebrates our logging heritage and vibrant community spirit.

In 2018 we coordinated 11 events (6 of which are free to attend!) over 4 days and hosted approximately 6000 people at our World-Class Loggers Sports Shows. We couldn’t do it without our volunteers and we’re looking for a few new faces to join the Squamish Days team.

We’re looking for people who want to dedicate their time to organizing an amazing community event, people who are interested in being a part of the growth and development of the longest running festival in Squamish, and people who want to give back to their community.

The Squamish Days Loggers Sports Festival is recruiting for the following volunteer positions:

  • Kid’s Festival Coordinator
  • Competitor’s or Volunteer’s Dinner Coordinator
  • Picnic in the Park Coordinator
  • Spirit Gear Assistant (reporting to the Souvenirs Coordinator)
  • Soft Sponsorship Assistant (reporting to Sponsorship Coordinator)
  • Sponsorship Assistant (reporting to Sponsorship Coordinator)

Time commitments for each position vary, but in general preparations for the festival start early in the year and go until September. Coordinator positions also require attendance at approximately six committee meetings (March – September) each year, and they report to our board.

Thanks to our dedicated organizing committee and weekend volunteers, we’re able to give back to the Squamish community. Squamish Days is partnered with six community groups (Howe Sound Curling Club, Rotary Club of Squamish, Royal Canadian Legion #277, Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue Station 4, Squamish Elk’s #119, and the Squamish Valley Equestrian Association) who provide volunteers to the festival and in return receive a portion of the profits from the weekend events.

This year’s festival will give roughly $30,000 back to these organizations and other local charities.
